Celebrate One of the Good Ones

There’s something about a vintage motorcycle and an old-school gas pump that just feels like strength, nostalgia, and quiet resilience. That’s exactly why the One of the Good Ones stamp set is such a perfect choice for Father’s Day cards. It captures that rugged, dependable energy so many of us associate with the dads and father figures in our lives.
With Father’s Day around the corner, this design leans into a masculine aesthetic without sacrificing artistry. The rich, moody background paired with the detailed stamped image creates a card that feels both heartfelt and timeless—just like the message you’re sending.

Creating the Background
The background is where this card really comes to life. I wanted something that felt like a quiet evening ride—cool tones, a hint of texture, and depth.
Start by blending your Distress Oxide inks across your panel. I used a mix of teal and blue tones to build a smooth gradient, then deepened the edges slightly for dimension. Once that was dry, I stamped the Explore background stamp using a light brown ink. This adds subtle texture without overpowering the focal image—think of it as visual “noise” that enhances the story.
To ground the scene, I incorporated the Pine Ridge Silhouette stencil. The soft tree line gives just enough context to suggest an open road or forest edge, reinforcing that sense of adventure.

Coloring the Focal Image
The motorcycle and gas pump from the One of the Good Ones set are packed with detail, making them perfect for coloring.
I used Copic markers to bring the image to life:
I used Neutral Grey Copics for the motorcycle. Darker greys to create the look of black and lighter greys to create the look of metal.
For the gas pump, I used E99 and BG72 to create that vintage patina look.
Don’t worry about making it perfect—slight variations in color actually enhance that worn, classic look.
After coloring, fussy cut (or digital die cut if available) and pop it up with foam adhesive to give the card dimension.

Finishing Touches
Layering is key to making this design feel complete. I added:
A bold orange mat to frame the cooler background tones
A stitched panel for subtle texture
A sentiment strip that ties everything together:
“Wishing you strength for the miles ahead.”
It’s simple, but powerful—and incredibly fitting for Father’s Day.
