Creating a Wintery Scene

Hi everyone!  It's Jules of Paper Gems by Jules back on the blog to share this wintery scene featuring the October 2020 KOM: Hello Winter Days.  This beautiful collaboration of stamps embodies winter fun and rustic cheer early enough to get your holiday cards started.  Which reminds me... I need to get started!

To start, I stamped out this lovely girl using Gina K Designs Amalgam Obsidian ink and my Misti Stamping tool.  Using earth tones, I colored her in with Copic markers. Once she was colored, I put her back into the Misti and stamped her again, but this time, I used VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne.  Yep... you can get that incredibly detailed black ink with alcohol markers, you just have to do it in reverse.  Shhh 🤫 ... that's my stamping secret!

For the background, I stamped it with the same Amalgam Obsidian ink and colored in parts.  Because there is so much detail in the stamp, there wasn't a lot of coloring needed.  I used a dark green for the trees, a light blue for highlights on the snow and light browns for the path.  And this scene is pretty enough on its own, but I really wanted her looking back on the road.

To add a little detail, I used my white Uni-ball Signo gel pen to create a light snow fall.  Normally, I would use white paint to splatter lightly, but I really wanted this to be a controlled snow and the gel pen allows for that.  For more detail, I added a Ranger's Diamond Stickles on to the edges of snow on each of the trees and the path.  This just adds another element to the card without too much bulk.  And who doesn't love controlled glitter.

Finally, I tore a piece of white card stock and stamped only a portion of the "Hello Winter Days" sentiment so that there was enough room for the girl to stand on the snow.  I used thin foam squares to add her to the card with a little depth.  This wintery scene is a great way to welcome the next season.  I hope you see how great these KOMs are and how many ways they can be used to create a wide variety of beautiful cards.

Thank you so much for following along and  make sure to check out the Unity {Show & Tell} Group on Facebook for lots of inspiration!

Until next time... Happy Crafting!
