A Christmas Card They'll Remember

The prettiest cards begin with a little less coloring and a lot more beautiful patterned paper! Today, I’m sharing a vintage-inspired Christmas card featuring The Christmas We Remember Paper Pack. This collection is filled with nostalgic holiday imagery, beautiful winter scenes, and those lovely, aged details that make me think of Christmases gone by.

For this card, I let the patterned paper take center stage and used it to create the entire card front. The result is a cozy, vintage Christmas design that looks detailed and layered without requiring a complicated coloring session. It’s also a wonderful reminder to take another look through your patterned paper stash. You might already have everything you need to create something beautiful!

One of my favorite things about patterned paper is that it can tell a story all on its own. The snowy cottage scene in this paper pack was simply too beautiful not to feature!

I trimmed the patterned paper to create my card front, then added coordinating layers to frame the image and bring out the rich, vintage colors. The darker mats help draw the eye toward the snowy cottage, while the crisp white border gives everything a finished look.

The sentiment, “May your Christmas be wrapped in warmth and wonder,” is the perfect finishing touch for this peaceful winter scene. I love how the combination of the vintage imagery and heartfelt greeting creates a card that feels warm, nostalgic, and ready to send to someone special.

Here’s your reminder, friends: you don’t always need to color an image to make a beautiful handmade card! Sometimes, a gorgeous piece of patterned paper, a few coordinating cardstock layers, and a sentiment are all you need.

Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a little sparkle!

To highlight the snowy details, I applied small amounts of liquid glue along some of the snow-covered edges and sprinkled on Tim Holtz Distress Rock Candy Glitter. This gives the snow a subtle, frosty shimmer that catches the light beautifully without overpowering the vintage artwork.

This is such an easy technique to try with patterned papers featuring snow, winter trees, rooftops, or other seasonal details. You can add just a touch of sparkle exactly where you want it and let the printed artwork do the rest.

A little glitter can go a long way, especially when you want to preserve the soft, nostalgic feel of a design.

Don't Toss Those Scraps: Make a Coordinating Gift Tag!

Once my card was finished, I turned to the leftover patterned paper scraps and created a coordinating Christmas gift tag.

I used a piece of the beautiful deep green patterned paper as the background and added a delicate gold snowflake for contrast. The white reinforcer around the tag hole gives it a polished finish, while the dark green ribbon ties the design together with the card.

I love when a few leftover scraps can become something useful! Having a coordinating gift tag makes the finished project feel like a little holiday gift set, and it’s a great way to stretch your supplies.

Next time you finish a card, save those smaller pieces of patterned paper. They’re perfect for gift tags, mini cards, bookmarks, sentiments, and other little projects.

Tips for Creating Card Fronts with Patterned Paper

If you have a stash of beautiful patterned paper that you’ve been saving for just the right project, this is your sign to use it!

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Choose a focal point. Look for a scenic image, a large floral, or a holiday illustration that can stand on its own.

  • Trim strategically. Before cutting, decide which part of the design you want to feature on your finished card.

  • Add simple layers. Coordinating cardstock mats can frame the paper and make it look even more intentional.

  • Keep embellishments purposeful. A sentiment, a little glitter, or a small accent may be all you need.

  • Use your scraps. Turn leftover pieces into gift tags or coordinating cards so that less of your beautiful paper goes to waste.

You can create a whole collection of cards this way, each with its own personality, simply by choosing different patterns from the same paper pack.
